Where 6-3 is a Dream and Where it’s a Nightmare

It all depends upon your perspective.

That was the theme of part of an hour-long conversation I had Saturday morning with my good friend Steve Doerschuk, the former longtime Browns beat writer from the Canton Repository.

Steve was headed late in the afternoon to the big Ohio Conference game between host Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace at Kehres Stadium in Alliance. The Purple Raiders went into the contest with an overall mark of 6-2. As Steve pointed out, that’s hardly a good record at what has become known at “Mountain” Union, which has won so many Division III national titles through the years that losing any games — even in the national finals — is not tolerated.

Steve then referred to my last post on BrownsDailyDose.com stating that the Browns’ 5-3 record heading into Sunday’s road game against the New Orleans Saints is outstanding considering how much they have struggled in this nightmarish expansion era. Thus, the Browns need to take advantage of this opportunity, and if they do and beat the Saints, then the ensuing 6–3 record would be just off the charts.

If the Purple Raiders lost on Saturday, then their record would also be 6-3 and that would be just the opposite of outstanding. It would be abysmal.

Two different football teams, two different histories, two different perspectives over the last quarter-century.

The Browns can start redirecting themselves with a win on Sunday. We’ll see if that happens.
