Head coach Hue Jackson says Robert Griffin III will start again Saturday when the Browns play the San Diego Chargers at FirstEnergy Stadium in their home finale.
But Jackson also said in so many words that unless RG3 starts producing, he may get benched in favor of Cody Kessler.
Kessler has played a lot this year but hasn’t wowed anyone, either. However, in being a rookie, he has plenty of room to grow and get better.
RG3 was Jackson’s hand-picked guy when the Browns signed him in free agency in the offseason, and then when the coach named him the starter halfway through the preseason. Finally, Jackson picked RG3 again when he had returned to health after injuring his shoulder in the regular-season opener.
And as Jackson continues to open the door for him, and keep it open, RG3 needs to realize that it won’t stay open forever if things don’t change – dramatically and soon.
The Cleveland offense is going nowhere fast. The only way to change that is to find a good quarterback. RG3 is getting the opportunity now to prove himself, but time is running out. Jackson has a team to build, and he can’t wait excessvely long for anyone, even his guy.
