For the life of me, I can’t understand this.
I really, truly can’t.
I’ve tried — oh, yes, you better believe I’ve tried, a whole bunch of times, in fact — but I simply can’t figure it out.
What is this of which I speak?
The dissing — the belittling — of the safety position in the NFL by all
the so-called “experts. “
Why is that?
Safety not a prime position?
Nothing could be further from
the truth. And it’s going to become even moreso as the game moves forward and evolves.
There is a lot of passing in the NFL.
The long passing attack has now taken over as the plays of choice. No West Coast offense here, everybody.
That puts even more stress on the back end of the defense. That is where the safety plays.
So, if your safety isn’t any good, then your defense is going to get toasted and your team is going to get beaten.
Safety first?
You bet.
