The Browns’ will be unveiling their new uniforms this week – which possibly could end up being a revisit of their old ones.

It – the timing of it, that is – makes sense, since the NFL Draft is still a ways off and there are only so many times, and ways, that even that mega-event can be discussed. Browns fans need something to chew on, and this could – and would – be it.

Regardless of any of that, though, I can say emphatically that there’s no one happier than, and perhaps no one as happy as, me that this is going to happen and we’re finally going to get rid of arguably the worst uniforms in not just the NFL, but also pro sports overall. Anything – anything – would be an improvement.

There may be a sports team at some college, or at some high school, that has a worse uniform than that of the Browns. I don’t know. But I do know I haven’t seen it yet, and don’t expect to, because it likely doesn’t exist.

The Browns back in 2015 did the once seemingly impossible in that they somehow found a way to ruin one of the best, and most classic, uniforms in sports when they unveiled the current gems. They were the brainchild of former top executive Alec Scheiner. During his short time in Cleveland, he viewed himself as always the smartest person in any room he was in, but when you do that kind of brazen, selfish, egotistical type of thing, you only serve to prove that just the opposite is true. And so it was with Scheiner, who was jettisoned from the organization as soon as the unveiling was made.

It was, then, his swan song. What a horrible sound it made, and what a horrible taste it left in the mouths of the great Browns fans who were stuck looking at them game after game, season after season.

What’s worse that watching your favorite team struggle on the field?

Seeing it happen while wearing hideous get-ups, something that looked like they were purchased at some low-level, off-brand, back-alley discount store.

Maybe, just maybe, if all the rumors are true, then the Browns will have corrected their earlier problem with the new uniforms this week.

We can only hope and pray that it’s the case.

Now, please excuse me while I go to church and light a candle.

Oh, darn it! I forgot that all the churches are closed!

Hmmm.

I’ll turn on an extra light here at home as a substitute.

  1. So the uniforms were unveiled since this post, and yes it is a revisit of the older jerseys. But I was hoping for something more than the old jerseys, which they even made them more simple than before. The last jerseys definitely screwed us up mentally as Browns fans, but I would like to see something more subtle of a change but still a change. We are living in a time of millenials who do like shiny things still (I am one of them). The last jerseys not only lost the old timers, but disgusted the younger generation. I would love to see Brownie on the jersey or (hear me out) on the helmet just not a huge logo on the side. Maybe a small Brownie next to the strips on the back or in the middle of the bottom back in place of a few inches of the stripes.
I’ve been wanting to talk abut the iconic helmet logo, that for me needs to go. I think the new dawg logo would fit in nice with the rest of the leagues logos. It would be something for the younger generation.
But think of this. You would have the uni’s for the older generation with the awesome Brownie elf, and the logo for the new younger generation. And the uni’s would not turn away the younger ones as well.
So you would have some history to explain to the young ones and some blind to keep them interested and build a bigger fan base.
