GREG ROBINSON NFL COMBINE – THE INTERVIEWS ARE REALLY BIG
By STEVE KING
So, if Greg Robinson, with the way he worked out at the 2014 NFL Combine, looked for all the world the part of a future Pro Bowl left tackle, causing the then St. Louis Rams to take him with the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft that year, why didn’t it happen?

Robinson, who was with the Browns the last two years before he played his way off the roster, and then worked his way into trouble with the law by driving around Texas with a whopping 157 pounds of marijuana packed away in his car, might not play in the NFL again for a long time, if ever. Imagine that?

Indeed, how quickly his star has crashed and burned.
Again, what in the name of precipitous drop occurred?
Simply this: While all the teams, most specifically the Rams, were going crazy over his physical prowess, they didn’t spend enough time studying his emotional and personal prowess – that is, his character, his ethics, his drive and his want-to. The teams failed miserably in the interview part at the combine, and then with the rest of the vetting process leading up to the draft.
With all that having been said, then, the Browns, who desperately need a left tackle, and a right tackle, for that matter, need to keep all this in mind as they finish up their work at this year’s combine in Indianapolis and ramp up their preparation for the draft.
If the people at the 2014 combine would have done their work in the interview process – sat across from Robinson and looked him right in the eye – they would have seen through the facade he was putting up.
As I wrote recently, while the workout stuff at the combine, and going forward with the pro days, is important, the interview process is even more so.
OK, once more Browns, are you listening?
Well, are you?
You had better be.
