DORSEY IS REALLY CONSIDERING IT

By Steve King

I like John Dorsey at least a little more every day. I think that much of him. He is just what the Browns needed.

Today, I like the Browns general manager a whole lot more.

The other day, I wrote here following the news about Josh Gordon that I hoped Dorsey would be his usual daring, aggressive, pushing-the-envelope self and at least consider signing Dez Bryant, the top free-agent wide receiver still out there – by far.

And on Wednesday, as Dorsey and head coach Hue Jackson met with the media on the eve of the beginning of training camp, we found that the GM is indeed thinking about making a run at Bryant.

Yippee!

Yahoo!

Woo-hoo!

Now, Bryant may tell the Browns to go pound salt, or not. There’s no way of telling. The Browns aren’t exactly on the verge of going to the Super Bowl, so, in that regard at least, they aren’t an attractive suitor.

But whatever happens, at least the Browns are thinking about Bryant. At least they aren’t timid about admitting it publicly. If you want to get to the stars someday, then you have to reach for them. There is no other way to do it.

Good for Dorsey.

Good for the Browns.

And good for the fans, who want so desperately for their team to be good again.

The loss of Gordon for however long, for whatever reason, means the Browns are without a deep threat in their passing game. That’s not good. That’s not good at all. It really limits what the offense can do. If the safeties don’t have to worry about the Browns throwing over their heads, they will creep up into the box and become run defenders. Since the Browns offense is going to be predicated on the ground game, they have to find someone to run downfield and make plays to push those safeties back where they belong.

Bryant would certainly be that guy – the best candidate, actually.

And that John Dorsey and the Browns are keeping Bryant on their radar is the best news that fans will hear all day today.
