ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER GOOD-NEWS STORY

By STEVE KING

This is getting good.

No, actually, this is getting great.

First it was wide receiver Dez Bryant in whom Browns General Manager John Dorsey is interested. That was Wednesday’s news.

Now it’s cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones who has drawn Dorsey’s attention. In fact, it was announced on Thursday that Jones, who was with the Cincinnati Bengals when Cleveland head coach Hue Jackson was an assistant there, will work out for the Browns on Friday.

It’s well known that Jones has baggage, just as Bryant has baggage. But they have had great careers. Bryant still has some tread – perhaps even a lot – on his tires. The Browns want to see if Jones, though 34, has some, too.

Dorsey said the other day that he will continue to look high and low for cornerbacks and wideouts. That’s because in a league where passing is the preferred way to move the football, you can never have enough guys to catch the ball, and enough guys to stop receivers from catching it.

Dorsey is doing everything he can to improve the Browns. He is leaving no stone unturned. He is bound and determined that the nightmares that have been the last two seasons will not occur again.

Sashi Brown, Dorsey’s predecessor, never would have done this – that is, considering players like Jones and Bryant. He was all about taking his good sweet time rebuilding this team. That’s why the Browns went 1-31 the last two years.

That can’t happen again. Dorsey is well aware of that because he’s a smart guy and knows what he’s doing, and also because owner Jimmy Haslam told him so.

There is a sense of urgency now. Yes, the Browns are going to continue to build with young players, but, when they can, they’re also going to add veterans who can help. Dorsey has done it – the latter – since he arrived, and now he’s doing it again with his interest in Jones and Bryant.

As such, there’s even more of a reason now for fans to have the audacity of hope.
