Draft Grades at this Point are a Waste of Your Time

Just as you can’t rate the food at a restaurant until you have tasted it, and you can’t rate a movie, concert or TV show until you’ve watched it, you can’t rate a team’s performance in the NFL Draft until you’ve had a chance to see the picks play for at least two years, if not three or even more.

That steak looked great when it was brought to your table, but it tasted like shoe leather. The movie, concert or TV program looked interesting, but it was a dud. The player had all the makings of a star, but he turned out to be a bust.

So, then, don’t pay any attention to all these draft grades. They mean absolutely nothing. They are a waste of your time. They are simply guesses, and in some cases, not very good ones at that.

The only aspect of the draft that can be evaluated at this time is intent, in that if the team used its draft capital in a common-sense manner to
address its needs. And in that way, the Browns did a good job. They needed lots of wide receivers and linemen, and so they drafted a number of players at both position areas. That was a no-brainer plan of attack.

Now, the Browns just need their draft picks to come through for them. We’ll just wait several years and see if that happens.
