Let’s cut right to the chase.
In reference to quarterback Johnny Manziel, Browns Executive Vice President of Football Operations Sashi Brown said Thursday that the club is “not in any panic to make any decision on him one way or another.”
Of course the Browns aren’t. They don’t have to right now. Training camp doesn’t start for another six months.
But if anyone thinks that the Browns – and new head coach Hue Jackson — will go into camp with all the nonsense that Manziel brings with him, then they ought to have their head examined.
This group of football decision-makers, as it’s presently constituted, didn’t draft Manziel and have absolutely nothing invested in him. He’s just another player – and an annoying one at that – and these people will kick him out of the building and not think twice about it.
Jackson keeps talking about the Browns needing a quarterback. He wouldn’t say that if he had any belief that Manziel could be that guy. That’s obvious.
The team needs to start fresh in every way, shape and form if it ever wants to get out of this malaise it’s been in for the last 17 seasons. That’s especially true at the all-important position of quarterback.
So enough already with all the focus on Manziel. He used to be a player to watch. Now he’s yesterday news. He’s not worth one more moment of our time.
