Browns Waive Anthony Schwartz

The fact the Browns waived wide receiver Anthony Schwartz ON Sunday was hardly a surprise.

In fact, it should’ve happened a long time ago.

Schwartz, a high NFL Draft pick several years ago, couldn’t stay healthy and couldn’t catch the ball. That’s a really bad combination.

Yes, he was fast, but this isn’t a track meet. Rather it’s a football game. So, then, being fast doesn’t do you any good if you can’t hold onto the ball.

Neither Brian Brennan nor Reggie Langhorne were fast, but they could hold onto the ball, and they hardly ever missed a play, let alone a game. Those are the kind of guys you want on your team, not the ones like Schwartz who are constantly standing on the sidelines either because they are hurt or because they can’t he trusted to make a play.

I am amazed at the fact that many scouts don’t understand this. They get enamored with speed, but like they say, speed kills. And staying too long with a fast guy who can’t catch passes will kill a scout’s career, not to mention that of a head coach or general manager as well.
