Browns get something for nothing

It’s all positive.

Indeed, there is nothing —absolutely, positively nothing —that is negative about the Browns‘ trade with the Denver Broncos for wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.

The Browns gave up fifth- and sixth-round picks in the NFL Draft to get him. Those will produce essentially guys who will make up the practice squad. They are throwaway picks. You use them to acquire things that are much more valuable.

And Judy definitely has that shot with the Browns to be something much more valuable. The Browns needed another playmaking wide receiver, and, at least in theory, they got him. He was the No. 15 overall draft pick in 2020 by Denver, but he withered on the vine there not so much because of his own failings, but because of those by the Broncos and their inability to find a conpetent quarterback to get him the ball. The list of players they had throwing to him will not make anyone forget John Elway.

In Cleveland, at least the Browns have a competent — or they hope to be competent, and healthy – quarterback in Deshaun Watson. And if he gets hurt, or can’t do the job, then they may just have somebody named Joe Flacco to replace him.

So, then, there is nothing to dislike about this trade. The Browns got better by not really losing anything. It is a good day in the NFL — or really, in all of pro sports — when you can do that.
