BROWNS BACK HERE ONCE AGAIN

By STEVE KING

I thought we were done with this.

I thought these days were long gone – at least for a long while.

I really did.

And I think that you did, too.

But apparently not, for here we are, with all kinds of talk about the possibility of the Browns having to make yet another head-coaching change.

Yikes!

Ugh!

Ugly as it may be – and it is obviously really, really ugly – the seat on which Freddie Kitchens now sits isn’t just hot. Rather, it is fiery-hot. It is as steamy-hot as the seat on which any struggling NFL head coach sits.

It is numbing.

Sickening.

Disgusting.

Disappointing.

And reality.

Will Kitchens lose his job?

Who knows? But the possibility certainly exists.

For this season was supposed to be so much better. The Browns were supposed to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Making the playoffs was a foregone conclusion. There wasn’t even a question of that.

But here the Browns are at 5-7 with four games left and, for all intents and purposes, eliminated from the postseason hunt.

To say the Browns underachieved is an understatement. It is the worst such case for them in the expansion era.

There could be a price to pay – a steep price in terms of Kitchens losing his job – for that.

The bottom line, though – the bigger picture here – is that until this stuff stops – until the Browns find a head coach who is capable of taking them where they want to go – they are going to be stuck in the mud.

The good franchises keep their head coaches.

The bad ones fire theirs.

That the Browns may fire theirs after this one spends just one year on the job, tells you everything you need to know.

How they can’t seem to get past this point just makes your head hurt.

A lot.

Still.

Ouch!
