The Cincinnati Bengals already have what they no doubt consider to be a very winnable game on Sunday when they host the 0-6 Browns at Paul Brown Stadium.
They got more good news on Wednesday when it was learned that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the heart and soul and the first-place team in the AFC North, will now be out for four to six weeks with his torn meniscus instead of the two to three weeks that was originally projected. That’s huge, for it brings the 4-2 Steelers back to the rest of the division, including the 2-4 Bengals and the 3-3 Baltimore Ravens.
If Roethlisberger had stayed healthy for the entire season, then it’s pretty certain that Pittsburgh would have won the division title. But with this injury, it could quite easily become a legitimate three-team race.
What does this mean for the Browns, who are headed for a last-place – once again?
It is yet another piece of evidence to prove the importance of the quarterback position on any team at any time. It is THE position in team sports. Nothing else equals it.
The Browns have to get their quarterback before this rebuilding really effort kicks into high gear. Until then, all the things have already done, and will continue to do, is just stuff.
