There is strength in numbers, especially in terms of building an NFL roster.
As I write this, the Browns have kept four quarterbacks in making moves to get down to the mandatory 53-man roster limit by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
By the time you read this, though, there may be only three quarterbacks on the roster. More specifically, there will probably be only three quarterbacks on the roster. I hope the Browns don’t get down to only two quarterbacks on the roster. That would be one too few.
As we have stated here many times, quarterback in football is the most important position in team sports. You can never have enough of them. They are like starting pitchers in baseball, only more important.
You can get by if you son players at any other position. But you will pay dearly if you scrimp on quarterbacks. If you are shorthanded at quarterback, then you are out of luck. You are setting the team up for failure.
Last year is a prime example of that for the Browns. They went through a heck of a lot of quarterbacks. Fortunately, Flacco saved them down a stretch. He was the MVP of the team, even more so than Myles Garrett, because without Flaco, there would’ve been no trip to the playoffs.
For whatever reason, the Browns did not keep Flacco for this season. It was a terrible, terrible, terrible decision.
We’ll see how everything plays out at all of the positions, but especially quarterback, as the roster continues to change in the next week and a half leading up to the start of the regular season. Let’s just hope the Browns are smart with what they do at quarterback.
