You Are Going to Love it Here

The following is an open letter to Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders:

Welcome to Cleveland!

You’re going to love it here. You really are. I guarantee it!

This is a warm, friendly, welcoming place, especially if you play for the Browns. And if you’re the quarterback of the Browns, then the warmth, friendliness and welcoming is ratcheted up even more — much more, in fact.

You see, the Browns are the biggest show in town. They always have been, and they always will be.

This is a football town, second to none. While the Cavaliers are having a tremendous season  — you’ve got to catch one of their Eastern Conference semifinals playoff games against the Indiana Pacers, and I know you will — and the Guardians are having another good season after nearly making it to the World Series last year — get to one of their games as well — the Browns are the biggest attention-getters. When they win a game, there’s a pep in the step of everyone in the region the next day. The electricity is so palpable that you can cut it with a knife.

Ask the former players. They’ll tell you. Get hold of Doug Dieken, Bernie Kosar, Kevin Mack or Hanford Dixon. There’s nothing like it. You’ll never pay for a meal in this city.

With all due respect to all the important leaders of this community — the movers and shakers and such — the quarterback of the Browns is the biggest and most important person of them all, by far. It isn’t even close, in fact.

But to whom much is given, much is expected. That goes for any Browns player, again, particularly for the quarterback. That is, you have to give back to the fans and to the community. Use your platform to spread goodwill, in a variety of ways.

And I am thrilled to say that you are off to a rousing start in that regard with the fact you spoke to the students at John Marshall High School the other day. Good job. You are already catching on. Keep up the good work!

We’ll talk again soon. Have a great day!

Steve King
