Now, about the quarterbacks, I think . . .
You guys:
“Ugh! Another Browns quarterback story?
“Aw, come on, we can get that stuff anywhere. We expect more here — something different. That’s what you always tell us. So, give us that. Give us something different. Give us more.
“And make it quick. Our time is precious. It’s Memorial Day weekend. We have a lot of things we have to do, and even more — many more — we want to do. I don’t need something of ‘War and Peace’ length. I need a quick hitter, like those running plays for Leroy Kelly years ago.
“What do you have for us?”
OK, I hear you. That’s all fair, and duly noted. You’re absolutely right. So, here goes.
And yes, I will be quick.
First, this about the quarterbacks: I hope, and pray, that the Browns, who sometimes view certain types of media coverage as something that has to be tolerated, and nothing more, fully and completely embrace all the attention they are getting, and will be getting in even bigger doses once training camp arrives, for their plethora of quarterbacks, namely one in rookie Shadeur Sanders, the most polarizing, and in terms of intriguing, second only to his college teammate, Travis Hunter, player in the NFL Draft. Encourage it. Invite it. Welcome it. Revel in it.
The fact of the matter is that the Browns were 3-14 last year and may well finish 3-14 this season. That’s a turn-off for the national media. Sanders is a turn-on. Take advantage of it.
Please.
General Manager Andrew Berry, check your big ego at the door and go with the flow.
Now for the even more important stuff in the big picture, and it concerns the Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy it, the parades, the picnics, the family gatherings, all of it. They are fun and enjoyable. And life is supposed to be fun and enjoyable.
But amidst all that, make sure to say thanks, to God (yes, we mention him here from time to time), and also to the families of servicemen who didn’t come home because they paid the ultimate price so you can do all these fun things, like thinking about football during the unofficial start of the summer season. That is — those brave heroes are — why there is a Memorial Day, and a Memorial Day weekend.
Thank you.
