Yes, the Browns Can Beat the Patriots — Here’s How

The Browns have a great opportunity on Sunday when they play the host New England Patriots.

No fooling. They really, truly do.

You can’t win two games in a row until you win one, and the Browns did just that last Sunday by pounding the hapless Miami Dolphins 31-6. So, in that regard, then, they’re right where they need to be.

Like the Dolphins, the Patriots are in the AFC East, but that’s where the similarities end. Head coach Mike Vrabel’s guys look to be legitimate contenders in the conference. They will be tough to beat.

But the Browns can do it if they simply do what they do best — that is, run the football down the Pats’ throats with primarily Quinshon Judkins, controlling the clock and wearing them down, and unleash one of the best defenses in the NFL on Drake Maye, swarming the young quarterback and forcing him into mistakes, especially turnovers. The latter, especially, is what the Pittsburgh Steelers did to edge New England at Foxborough earlier this season.

Now, do I trust head coach/offensive play-caller Kevin Stefanski to dial up all those runs and stay with such a plan throughout? I don’t, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he will do so after seeing the way Judkins and the rushing attack dominated Miami.

The Browns aren’t going to put together a long winning streak and go to the playoffs — put that out of your mind right now — but if they want to begin to be taken a little more seriously, then defeating New England on the road is the way to do it.
