Quarterback is the most important position in team sports.
So, then, if things don’t change in their horribly-performing and underachieving offense, the Browns are going to have to consider a change at quarterback.
Now, do they have the nerve to sit Deshaun Watson? I highly doubt it. Because of what they’re paying him — $230 million guaranteed — and what they gave up to get him in a trade with the Houston Texans — three first-round NFL Draft picks — they are going to keep trotting him out there and hope and pray that he gets it together and leads the turnaround of the offense.
But I just don’t see any way that happens. He looks old and rusty as an old gate after hardly playing the previous three seasons because of injuries, being suspended and being removed from the lineup in Houston.
Are the Browns, in the person of General Manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefansk, so determined — and stubborn — to make it happen with Watson that they would sacrifice the team and the season? I think they are, definitely.
And that is indeed a numbing thought.
