WILL THESE YOUNG BROWNS STEP UP BOTH ON, OFF FIELD?

So, the Browns need someone with a little bit of that LeBron James pizzazz, huh?

Notice that I didn’t say they need their own Lebron. That’s like asking to win the lottery. It is just about impossible.

Yes, the Cavs have really got it going right now. They have a great team that won a championship a year ago, and they have the best player in the world – and possibly the greatest of all-time.

And did we mention that the guy is from Akron and will tell anyone who will listen how very proud he is of that?

Folks, it doesn’t get any better than that.

It’s why Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has to check his pride and ego, keep his business hat on and do whatever he has to do – save for laying in front of LeBron’s car – to keep him from leaving. No, check that, Gilbert has to be prepared to lay in front of the car, too, if necessary.

Really. Truly. Not figuratively, but in actuality.

For if LeBron leaves again, the Cavs are finished. They will go back to drawing 7,000 – on a good night – and no one will care anything about them.

But back to the Browns. They won’t get a LeBron in terms of what he brings both on and off the court – again, that would be asking too much – but along with getting better, they have to get more recognizable players. This is, after all, sports. It’s entertainment. It’s supposed to be blow-your-hair-back fun.

And, of course, it’s been far from that since 1999, and particularly last season, when it was the antithesis of fun.

If the stars all align in just the right way, the Browns will get better sooner rather than later and all their young players will be the reason. This will be the late 980s Browns all over again – or at least halfway approaching that – when a kid from Boardman put the franchise back on the map.

DeShone Kizer – everybody seems to forget that he’s from Toledo – would, in that perfect world, lead that charge, along with Myles Garrett, Isaiah Crowell, Corey Coleman, David Njoku, Jabrill Peppers,  Jamie Collins and others.

Those guys – some more than others, obviously – have big personalities. They could – they would – be fan favorites, especially with younger people, who have never seen a winner.

Before you say it won’t happen, consider this: isn’t it about time that something good happened with the Browns – likely not LeBron James-like good — but still good nonetheless? The odds are with them.
