Will They Stay or Will They Go? AFC North Futures in Question

There are many more questions than answers for the four AFC North teams with two weeks left in the regular season, and almost all of it revolves around what high-profile figures may, or may not, be around in the not-too-distant future.

It’s a play on the memorable advertising slogan by the Big Boy restaurant chain years ago, “Will he stay or go?,” referring to whether it should continue with its iconic Big Boy figure.

Let’s take a quick look:

*Browns — As fans here well know, there is no indication whether the team will retain head coach Kevin Stefanski and/or General Manager Andrew Berry, or if it will give Shadeur Sanders a real shot to be its franchise quarterback. Owner Jimmy Haslam has a lot to figure out.

*Pittsburgh Steelers — The club that visits Huntington Bank Field on Sunday in the Browns’ home finale may just be rounding into postseason mode and could be a dangerous opponent, but an even bigger issue is that it has a longtime veteran quarterback in Aaron Rodgers and a longtime veteran head coach in Mike Tomlin who both could be headed out the door — and into retirement, or to another team — once the season ends.

*Baltimore Ravens — The original Browns franchise, which has failed to make it to the Super Bowl with this current group, no matter how hard everyone tried, is not even making the playoffs this year and as such may have finally figured out that there is something amiss in the relationship between quarterback Lamar Jackson and head coach John Harbaugh and it can’t be fixed unless one or both are shown the door.

*Cincinnati Bengals — Despite all the niceties expressed over the last week, something also is not right between quarterback Joe Burrow and head coach Zac Taylor and the organization overall as well. Burrow will stay, but will Taylor? The Bengals, who host the Browns in the regular-season finale on Jan. 4, don’t often part ways with their head coaches, but this may be the time to make an exception to the rule in order to keep The Franchise — Burrow —happy.

Stay tuned.
