Entertainment? Try Winning First
There was a story in USA Today the other day ranking the most entertaining NFL teams from top to bottom.
Guess who’s at the very bottom?
Yes, you guessed it, your team, and my team, the Cleveland Browns.
That hurts, but it’s not surprising, really, when you think about it. If they’re not No. 32 — and I could argue, and be right, that they’re not — then they are certainly in the bottom five, or even just two or three.
Ouch.
Again.
Still.
So, then, if Browns owner Jimmy Haslam needed any more incentive, or another reminder — and he didn’t really, to be honest, because this guy doesn’t take losing, getting embarrassed and looking bad and ugly, well, or at all — to get this franchise turned around headed into the new domed stadium that he’s going to build — then this lengthy frontpage story should certainly do the trick.
And another thing: I am about the same age, and so are a number of my friends, as Haslam. We are all much closer to the end than the beginning. So, then, the clock is ticking at a quick pace for him
to get this team not just to its first Super Bowl, but to also win it, while we are still above ground to see it, experience it, embrace it, appreciate it, enjoy it, celebrate it, get emotional about it.
Work relentlessly, and with a distinct purpose, Mr. Haslam. You are counting on yourself, and we are counting on you.
After all, sports is entertaining, football is entertaining, when you win. Being on the wrong end of the final score, doesn’t, ever, to those who view themselves as winners.
