In the world of college football, few nicknames capture a player’s essence quite like “Rocket.” And for Raheim “Rocket” Sanders, the name isn’t just catchy—it’s a reflection of the power, speed, and determination he brings to the field. From standout seasons in the SEC to the grind of NFL preseason, Sanders’ journey is one of grit, resilience, and untapped potential.
From Arkansas Star to SEC Sensation
Sanders first made waves as a running back for the Arkansas Razorbacks, joining the team in 2021. By 2022, he had exploded onto the national scene, rushing for 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns, while averaging an impressive 6.5 yards per carry. That performance marked the fourth-highest single-season rushing total in Arkansas history and earned him First-Team All-SEC (AP) and Second-Team All-SEC (Coaches) honors.
However, the following year wasn’t as smooth. A series of injuries in 2023 sidelined Sanders for most of the season, limiting him to just six games and 209 rushing yards. Despite the setback, Rocket was far from finished.
A Comeback in Columbia: South Carolina Gamecocks
In search of a fresh start, Sanders transferred to the University of South Carolina for the 2024 season—and the move paid off.
He led the Gamecocks with 881 rushing yards, added 316 receiving yards, and racked up 13 total touchdowns over 12 games. His performance helped lift South Carolina’s offense and earned him Second-Team All-SEC honors, the Comeback Player of the Year award, and a share of the team’s Offensive MVP title.
More than just his play on the field, Sanders was recognized for his work ethic off it, receiving awards for nutrition and resilience.
Chasing the NFL Dream
Despite his college resurgence, Sanders went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. But his journey didn’t end there.
He was quickly signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as a free agent, where he impressed in preseason action—rushing for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, in the final round of cuts, the Chargers released him.
Just days later, Sanders was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Browns, a team in search of backfield depth and playmaking potential. With his versatility and determination, Sanders could prove to be a valuable asset as he adjusts to the NFL level.
