When Everyone Loses: Sorting Through the Blame in the DK Metcalf Suspension

Spotlight on the quarterbacksCredit ESPN

There’s a lot of people to blame for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf being suspended for two games, including Sunday’s visit to Huntington Bank Field to play the Browns, while also voiding some hefty guarantees in his contract, for shoving a fan in the stands in Ford Field on Sunday before the big 29-24 win over the Detroit Lions.

Check out the responsible — or, as it were, irresponsible — parties:

*Metcalf: How stupid can you be? You hurt yourself. You hurt your resurgent team, which is on a roll and trying to win the AFC North championship, by making yourself unavailable for two important games. You hurt your integrity and manhood by going after a fan and making yourself look foolish and violent and incapable of handling your emotions, something with which you have struggled greatly throughout your career. You hurt the members of your family by embarrassing them.

*Metcalf again: And oh, yeah, you hurt the kids who look up to you. Is that any way to display yourself as a role model? You looked like a thug, a criminal.

*Ford Field security team members: Where were you at when all this was going on? We forgot the one guy who was indeed right there but was somehow oblivious to what was happening. You were as bad as your sinking, stinking football team, which lost again — at home, no less — to put its playoff odds at about the same level as the Tennessee Titans.

*Steelers security team members: The Steelers have long branded themselves as a tough, physical, hard-hitting and aggressive team. You guys, though, were as weak, pathetic and useless as could be. What were you doing? Did you forget that last Sunday was a work day. Yoy!

*The fan: You are dumber than Metcalf. Look at how that guy is built. He could have killed you. No, really, that’s not a figure of speech. He could have actually ended your life easily if he had wanted to. The next time you go to a game, behave yourself and root for your Lions. They desperately need all the help they can get.
