When Basketball Bolstered the Browns

Basketball is in the air now.

On the floor.

And off the backboard.

That’s how it is — and will be — over the next several weeks during March Madness, the NCAA men’s and women’s college basketball tournaments. As we pointed out here recently, it is absolutely the best part of the overall sports year. Nothing else, not even the NFL, can compete with it. To be sure, the NFL owns the other 49 weeks of the year, but during March Madness, it’s college basketball that takes over.

Most of you already know all that already. But there’s something of which you may not be aware.

It is that basketball played a significant — and defining — role in one of the Browns’ most memorable seasons. In fact, without it, the whole course of history for that season would have changed drastically.

I’ll tell you about it next.
