We’ve seen this story hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of times, possibly more — probably more, in fact — not just with the Browns, or even the NFL as well, but rather with every team, franchise and major school in all sports, not only football.

Indeed, what is happening with the Browns and head coach Kevin Stefanski is hardly a surprise.
It is sad and unfortunate for fans of the club, to be sure, but definitely not a shock.
That is, the losses keep mounting and the answers to why silly, stupid and incredibly bad decisions, such as not running the ball more when it was working, and why timeouts were used to actually help the opposition, for instance, were made, get fuzzy, strange and hard to understand. They make no sense at all.
What is worse than yet another loss — Stefanski is 4-19 in his last 23 games — is when the head coach is unable not only to understand how it occurred, but also how to fix it.
I don’t want to say clueless, for that’s mean and disparaging and he’s a good man, and a nice guy. It’s just that he is clearly in over his head, as a head coach.
If Stefanski is not capable of making simple, Football 101-type decisions to win a game against a mediocre, beaten-up team in the Minnesota Vikings that was right there to be had — until it wasn’t in a nauseating 21-17 loss — then why in the world would any sane, reasonable person expect him to make savvy, gutsy, see-the-game-on-a-higher-level calls in a game hanging in the balance against a quality opponent?
You wouldn’t. You just would not. You couldn’t. It would be utterly foolish.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are on a rudderless ship.
A rebuild? Into what, those great Stefanski teams of 2021, 2022 and 2024? What is the model? What is the plan? Has anyone in Berea ever outlined anything even just remotely close to a plan, a blueprint?
What is the reason for any optimism?
Oh, that’s right, there is none.
All of this is obvious. You don’t need to be a brain surgeon to figure it out. Browns fans are smart. They know it. But that’s not enough. Does Browns owner Jimmy Haslam know it? And if he does, then will he do something about it, and soon?
Ahh, that’s the $64,000 question, isn’t it?
We can only hope. The audacity of hope.
Now, do I wish it were different? Yes, of course, always!!! I desperately want to see this team win, not just games but also championships, as in plural, more than one. But it isn’t, and it had better be sometime soon.
The clock is ticking.
