What’s the definition of insanity?

It’s doing thing over and over and over again and expecting different results.

And that brings us to the Browns, more specifically to rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer. Kizer was named the starter halfway through the preseason and stayed in the lineu p for the first five regular-season games, during which time he started fast, being impressive in the opener, and then got progressively worse until head coach Hue Jackson pulled him at halftime of a 31-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 7.

Kizer stood on the sideline last Sunday and watched his replacement, Kevin Hogan, start and go the distance in a 33-17 loss to the Houston Texans. But Hogan struggled mightily, so much so, in fact, that Jackson is expected to name Kizer the starter again for Sunday’s home game against the Tennessee Titans.

Jackson was asked at his press conference on Monday, “What can chafe for Kizer and the team if Kizer returns to the starting job this week?”

“I think two things,” Jackson said. “I think you said it, I think for him, he will be a little bit more team-protecting in situational football things. I think he will understand that better and really what it does to your team as you are in those situations.

“No. 2, I think he will demand more from the guys that play around him because I think he understands that every play matters and every play is a difference between having a chance to win or lose a game. Not that I don’t think he was trying to be that, but when you are young and you are trying to make sure you are on top of the game plan, let alone making sure that guys are lined up correctly but then making sure guys are in the right spots for you play, after play, after play, that is a lot of responsibility. I think he sees now how critical every opportunity is that you get. I think he will be on top of those things.”

We shall see.
