Owner Jimmy Haslam.
General Manager Andrew Berry.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Those are the three men running the Browns, making all the important decisions. Call them the three top men.
Now, with the start of the regular season a little over three months away and the team in the infancy of being put together, what would you say if you could tell each man one thing?
That’s an intriguing thought. I want to be serious here, no smart-aleck comments or harsh criticism that borders on being personal. Indeed, you’re Browns fans and as such you obviously want to see them win, so what would tell them in hopes of saying something that would represent your passion and convey to them just how important these games are for you and those who run in your circle?
Think about that for a moment.
And as you do, I’ll tell you mine.
For Haslam: “I like the fact that you’re pushing forward with that domed stadium — it’s been needed for decades and will really transform the area — and that you made the decision to take quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the NFL Draft. Yes, you hire football people to make football decisions, but when you feel the need to intervene, you should certainly act on it.”
For Berry: “Your job is to build a winner, a Super Bowl champion. It’s not to manage the salary cap and get into the playoffs just three times in five years, with just one win. That means next to nothing. Win a Super Bowl and you will see a celebration like you’ve never seen before.
For Stefanski: “ You came to Cleveland with the reputation of being ‘the quarterback whisperer.’ I’ve seen none of that. In fact, quarterback has been, by far, the most mismanaged position on the team. This is a pivotal time with all these quarterbacks on the roster. Let’s see what you can do, for as the quarterback goes, so goes the team. Also, I like — a lot — the fact you were the one guy at the top of the organization who didn’t want any part of the sleaze experiment that was the procurement of Deshaun Watson. It was forced upon you. It was easy to figure that out. It says all I need to know about you, as a person.”
