NO BAD, JUST GOOD, BECAUSE THE BROWNS WON
By STEVE KING
I don’t want to hear any of it.
I don’t want to hear that the Browns didn’t do this right or that right against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Just as it doesn’t matter one bit when they do a lot of good things and lose, it doesn’t matter one bit when they do a lot of bad things and win.
It’s about winning and losing.
That’s all, nothing more and nothing less.
It’s the way the NFL is, and all pro sports are.
Cleveland 19, Buffalo 16. Final score.
That’s all that matters.
The Browns snapped a four-game losing streak, during which they did enough to win on more than one occasion. They improved to 3-6.
And as such, they gave everybody in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio a pep in their step as they begin another work week with fears that inclement weather is moving in.
Was it pretty?
No.
Was it exciting?
Yes, at the end it was, certainly, but for much of the day, it was hard to watch.
Running back
Nick Chubb was outstanding. Again.
His new running mate in the backfield, Kareen Hunt, proved in his debut that, in addition to being a real threat to score a touchdown whenever he touches the ball anywhere on the field, he is also a great lead blocker for Chubb.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield proved to be tough and resilient. He was at his best down the stretch, which is a necessity for all quarterbacks since most of these games are won — and lost – down the stretch. A quarterback’s most important job is to win the game. So good job there, Baker.
The defense was outstanding, bending often but not breaking much.
The offensive line? Ugh.
But again, we’re not going to dwell on that.
Instead, we’re going to dwell on the fact that this is, at long last, a victory Monday in a very short work week, with the Pittsburgh Steelers coming to town for Thursday Night Football.
Enjoy.
