Too much talk about coaches

The main story for the Browns leading into Sunday’s, road game against the Washington Commanders isn’t who’s healthy or not – as if that means anything for a team already eliminated from postseason consideration, right? – but rather how much talk there is about prominent members of the coaching staff.

Ugh!

Indeed, coaches talk at this point of the season is hardly a positive.

Some Cleveland players are coming out in support of head coach Kevin Stefanski, who is, in essence, serving as his own offensive coordinator, and of defensive coordinator Joe Woods. Why would players do that if they’re not worried about the coaches’ jobs?

There are questions about Stefanski in both regards – his overall coaching of the team and of the offense, specifically, especially with the play-calling – and about Woods with a defense that struggles in stopping the run, tackling and knowing assignments.

When your offense and defense are both not functioning well, it’s a path to a disappointing season, which may explain why a talented Browns team is 6-9.

Is Stefanski, who is guaranteed of finishing with his second straight losing record after leading the Browns to their first playoff appearance in 18 years in his first season of 2020, on the hotseat?

Not at the very moment, but he may well be heading into next season.

Will Woods be back? Even he is openly worried about his status.

Yikes!

How much longer before this nightmare of a season is over?
