Time to make some big changes in the NFL
What if the NFL followed the lead of the biggest conferences in college football and made the AFC and NFC into two big “divisions,” thus getting rid of the present division set-up?
That is, all the present AFC teams are piled into one division, and all the NFC teams are piled into the other, creating two 16-team divisions.
The AFC can be like the Big Ten Conference, with the NFC acting like the Southeastern Conference, or vice-versa, whatever you wish.
And perhaps – perhaps – while we’re at it, we had another tentacle into the equation in that we do some conference realignment in the process?
The Browns and Detroit Lions, because of the close proximity of the cities in which they’re based, should be playing each other a whole lot more than just once every four years, which is what happens now. Ditto for other teams based near each other, regardless of their conferences, in the Browns and Indianapolis Colts, the Browns and Chicago Bears, the Cincinnati Bengals and Colts, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles, the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders, the Ravens and Eagles, the Ravens and New York Giants, the Giants and New York Jets, the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, the Buffalo Bills and Giants, and the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams.
And so on and so forth.
It might be totally impossible, but it’s at least something to consider, don’t you think?
