Throwing a flag on negativity

I don’t want to hear about any officials’ calls at the end of the game in the Browns’ big 39-38 victory over the host Indianapolis Colts on Sunday

That is so lame. It is for losers, the people who aspire to be losers.

Here’s a newsflash for you: the officials don’t care who wins and losers.

Here’s another newsflash for you: every rule change in the NFL in the last 45 years has been made to take something away from the defense and give something to the offense, because every survey the league has done of its fans indicates that they want to see scoring. They want to see points and they want to see offense. So, when you hit the quarterback out of the rules, and you rough up the receivers out of the rules, the officials are going to call it. That’s the way the game is played now, because that’s the way the rules are now.

Instead, I want to hear about all the guts the Browns displayed.

I want to hear about how the Browns lost their starting quarterback — again — and played through it and found a way to win.

I want to hear about how the Browns did not play a consistent game defensively and found a way to win.

I want to hear about how the Browns found a way to win when they didn’t do much offensively.

Those are the things that matter, and those are the things that should matter.

Give the Browns some credit. We criticize them when they do poorly, but we need to praise them when they do well. They did well on Sunday, and it had nothing to do with any officials’ calls. It had everything to do with the Browns being tough and resilient and determined and persevering, and anyone who thinks differently is just looking for negatives.
