THIS IS A DAY FOR SPECIAL VETERANS

By STEVE KING

There are veterans in all walks of life – all professions, including the NFL and with Browns.

They do their jobs for years and years, even decades upon decades in some instances.

We salute those people.

Yes, there are veterans, then there are VETERANS, such as those who have served in the military over the nearly 250 years our country has been around, and continue to serve. Those are special veterans because, of course, they’re risking their lives on their jobs. They can be called at any time to any point on the globe to defend our freedoms.

We salute those VETERANS even more, especially on VETERANS Day, which is Wednesday.

The Browns are beginning in earnest to prepare for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans at FirstEnergy Stadium. It is a big game, to be sure, for the Browns, who emerge from their bye week at the halfway mark of the season with a healthy 5-3 record as they try to make it to the AFC playoffs for the first time in 18 years.

Despite that, this is not really a day to focus much on the Browns – we’ll do that again beginning on Thursday – but it is certainly a day to focus a lot on our VETERANS.

We are asked to thank a VETERAN for their service every time we see one. With that, though, let’s also thank VETERANS in other ways by respecting the freedoms for which they’ve fought. We can do so by being responsible, courteous, kind, patient and understanding in our dealings with all those with whom we come in contact. Though they may be totally different than us in every way, shape or form, they have a right to be who they are just as much as we have a right to be who we are.

That’s what America is, a melting pot of people, backgrounds and thoughts. And, if you ask the VETERANS, protecting all those Americans has always been worth their service.
