The Top 40 Browns Assistants: Part 2

Believeland

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following, which looks at those ranked Nos. 21-30, is the second in a four-part series on the top 40 assistant coaches in Browns history.

The Browns have had a lot of quality assistant coaches through the years.

You will begin to really see that in this list, as some very good assistants have been pushed way down the rankings.

Why ?

Simply because there are even better coaches ahead of them.

Let’s take a peek:

  1. JOHN PETERCUSKIE (1978-84) – He was the special teams coach on those special Kardiac Kids teams.

  1. MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER (1980-84) – He did well enough as the defensive coordinator of the Kardiac Kids to eventually get the head-coaching job.

  1. KIRK FERENTZ (1993-95) – Despite coming to Cleveland way under the radar after having been the head coach of the Maine Bears, he quickly established himself as one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL.

  1. JERRY ROSBURG (2001-06) – The special teams were tremendous when he was with the Browns.

  1. DICK EVANS (1960-63) – He coached the defensive line under two super head coaches, Paul Brown and Blanton Collier.

  1. RICH KOTITE (1978-82) – The receivers on the Kardiac Kids were in good hands.

  1. DICK MACPHERSON (1978-80) – Another Kardiac Kids coach, this one was in charge of the linebackers.

  1. CHUCK PAGANO (2001-04) – He coached a productive secondary under Butch Davis.

  1. BRUCE ARIANS (2001-03) – He handled quarterbacks Tim Couch and Kelly Holcomb.

  1. RICHARD MANN (1985-93) – Very quietly, he did a great job tutoring the wide receivers for three full-time head coaches.
