THE TIMING OF THIS GAME IS PERFECT

It is appropriate that, in a week when some silly people are wondering if the 0-10 Browns may blow it up again and start all over, the team is getting ready to host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Steelers are the picture of consistency in the NFL, being on just their third head coach since 1969. Sure, the Steelers have been successful overall during that time, but they have had their disappointing times as well, such as this season when they’ve been a very mediocre 4-5 thus far.

However, no one in Pittsburgh is saying – or even thinking – that the Steelers are going to make any significant changes, let alone blow it up completely. That’s just not the way they do things over there. When the seas get rough and the boat starts rocking, nobody panics and goes off the deep end. Everybody just holds on a little tighter until things calm down. And things always calm down eventually.

As such, what’s going on in Pittsburgh can be a model for the Browns and their fans, especially those who are starting to get anxious as the club gets closer and closer to a winless season. The Browns committed to a total rebuild, the most complete such project in team history. It was never going to be easy, fun or quick. That’s just not the way these things work. But it was necessary if the Browns were ever going to get back on track. In fact, they should have done it quite some ago. But the Browns can’t look back and worry about that. They just need to hold on a little harder.

And to see the benefits of doing that, they need only look across the field to the opposite sideline on Sunday.
