The Greatness of Nick Chubb

The top individual accomplishment by running back Nick Chubb in a Browns career that almost certainly has ended?

It is that he is third in career rushing yards with 6,843 on a team that has three Pro Football Hall of Fame backs.

No one is ever going to surpass the greatest player at any position in Jim Brown (12,312), or his successor, Leroy Kelly (7,274). That’s a given, especially in the modern-day NFL in which players don’t stay with any team for a long time, certainly not long enough to surpass those greats.

But I was pretty certain that no one would ever overtake Mike Pruitt, who for nearly 40 years stood third with 6,540 yards. But Chubb did it.

The expansion era Browns have not had many great players. It is why they’ve not had any truly great teams, and just a few good ones.

But Chubb is one of the five standouts, along with, of course, Hall of Fame left tackle Joe Thomas, future HOF defensive end Myles Garrett, kicker Phil Dawson and returner Joshua Cribbs.

Congratulations, Nick Chubb, Cleveland will truly miss you.
