The team was named for him, for goodness sakes. It was like throwing Mr. Macy out the front door of the department store.

And John Harbaugh can get fired.
And this guy and that guy and the other guy over there can get fired.
To be sure, anybody and everybody can get get fired.
And Mike Tomlin can be made to feel like he’s no longer wanted.
As they say, head coaches are hired to be fired, or to go away. That’s just the way the NFL is.
A coach’s message — his way of doing things, his way of practicing and his way of being, in essence, the face of the franchise — fades and loses its effect over time.
Sometimes, change can be good for everybody, for the team and the coach, and for the team that the coach might go to work for.
Keep all that in mind as we go forward in this crazy process.
