If chaos reigns supreme this time, it will be a good thing
I’ve never been one of these fans who root for chaos in sports just to muddy-up the works and screw up the process, such as all the lower seeds winning in the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament and you end up with schools you’ve never heard of in the Sweet 16.

It’s like dreaming of traffic jams, bad weather and spilling hot coffee on work clothes. Those are all negative thoughts, and I’m not a negative guy. I am instead a card-carrying member of the glass-is-half-full party. It’s easier on your blood pressure. And anyway, things already swerve off the highway and into the tall grass enough times because of the normal course of life. You don’t need to wish for more of it, thank you.

But there are exceptions to every rule, and now is the time for such. I want to see Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders light it up over these last four games of the season, beginning with Sunday’s visit to Chicago to play the Bears.

If he can stand out against the first three foes, all of whom (also home contests against the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers) seem poised to make the playoffs, and hold his own against the Bengals’ Joe Burrow in the finale at Cincinnati, then he will make such a strong case to get a legitimate and honest and fair shot to be the franchise quarterback that even the football-side power-brokers at Browns headquarters in Berea — you know, the ones who don’t want him to succeed because he’s not “their” guy in that owner Jimmy Haslam forced them to select him in the NFL Draft — won’t be able to ignore him or his accomplishments any longer, try though they might.
That will create chaos in the organization, but it’s the kind of chaos the Browns need to experience so as to focus not on personal agendas but rather on those of the team.
Remember, this season, almost from the very start, has not been so much about winning, but instead about finding the quarterback, a chaotic, problematic task for the Browns for a quarter-century now.
