THE BROWNS WILL WIN, AND HERE’S WHY

By STEVE KING

I think the Browns will win.

Yes, I do. I really do.

We all get feelings about these games – with our heads and not just our hearts – and I’ve got a feeling – with my head and not just my heart – that the Browns will win and earn their first AFC playoff berth in 18 years when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers in this all-important game on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium.

By what score? I don’t know, but I think it will be neither an extraordinarily low-scoring game nor will it be an extraordinarily high-scoring one, but rather a contest with an in-between score. I’ll say 27-23 and point out that, like almost every other Browns game this season, it will go right down to the end.

The final score, though, isn’t important at all. The final result is. It’s all that matters, for whether it’s 3-2 or 50-49, the Browns just need to win.

And they will.

Again, why?

Why, you ask?

Yes, why?

Because:

*The Browns understand completely the magnitude of what’s at stake.

*They’re at home, and they’ve re-established that as an advantage, especially against the Steelers in recent seasons.

*The Browns got embarrassed – terribly so – by the New York Jets last Sunday and they want – terribly so – to make amends.

*Quarterback Baker Mayfield, who was embarrassed more than anyone by his three costly fumbles against the Jets, realize this is a career-defining game and will turn in his best – and, more importantly, most efficient — performance as a pro.

*The Browns got thoroughly embarrassed by their earlier performance against the Steelers in that 38-7 loss in Pittsburgh and want to make amends for that, too.

*Wide receiver Jarvis Landry knows that the Browns traded for him to play in games like this.

*Right tackle Jack Conklin knows the Browns sought him out in free agency to play in games like this.

*Defensive end Myles Garrett desperately wants to leave the field following a home against the Steelers with a good feeling in his gut.

*Head coach Kevin Stefanski knows the Browns hired him to coach in games like this.

*It’s well past time that the Browns made the playoffs. The stars seem all aligned in just the right way for it to happen.
