The Browns Are Celebrating. The Mariners Are Demanding. Who’s Right?

The Browns and their fans celebrated wildly their 31-6 win over a disinterested, dysfunctional and deplorable Miami Dolphins team last Sunday.

That’s understandable, since, going back over three seasons, the Browns have five victories in the last 25 games.

But the question that begs to be asked is, “How far are the Browns from being a serious contender for a trip to the Super Bowl?”

Answer: A long way, because they don’t have the mindset for it yet. They can’t visualize what it takes.

How do we know that?

Because Cal Raleigh tells us so, in so many words.

Huh?

What?

How does the standout home run-hitting catcher for the Seattle Mariners figure into any of this?

It’s simple. Raleigh said the Mariners’ season was “a failure” after they lost 4-3 to the Toronto Blue Jays in the deciding Game 7 of the American League Championship Series on Monday night.

The Mariners had a 3-1 lead and seemed headed for their first World Series appearance before George Springer’s three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning dramatically changed the game, the series and the season.

One pitch. In just one pitch, then, a seemingly very good year turned into a failure, in his estimation?

Yes, that’s right. The Mariners want to win it all, which is as it should be.

The Browns? They’re all giddy about winning a middle-of-the-season game that, when it’s all said and done, probably won’t mean a darn thing in the grand scheme of things.

See the difference?
