Check the AFC North standings after the opening weekend of the regular season.
This may be historic. I don’t recall ever seeing something like this in any division, let alone just this one.

Add up the margins of victory for the three games involving the North’s three teams, and it’s just four points. Yes, that’s right, four points!!!
That’s incredible, unbelievable and mind-boggling. You can’t make this stuff up.
The Browns, of course, lost by one point, 17-16, to the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Baltimore Ravens also lost by one point, 41-40, to the Buffalo Bills on a last-play field goal.
And the Pittsburgh Steelers edged the New York Jets 34-32 on a field goal — 60 yards, to boot, literally and figuratively — as time expired.
These are razor-thin margins, and it likely won’t be the last of it in this division. Will the race for both the title and wild-card berths go down to the last week? Oh, certainly. It will probably even go down to the last play in the games involving the Bengals, Steelers and Ravens. And who knows, the Browns could even be involved in some way as well, if only as a spoiler.
We point out all the time here that most NFL games come down to the end. It’s the teams that make plays down the stretch — the Steelers and then the Bengals by waiting out the Browns and forcing them to try field goals to expose their weakness at kicker — that win, and the teams that don’t make them — the Browns and then the Ravens in blowing a late 15- point lead — that lose.
