TAYLORING MY THOUGHTS AT QB

By STEVE KING

The whole football world, it seems, has been talking about the Browns quarterbacks for a long time, and probably will continue to do so.

Let’s join the fray with two of my thoughts:

*With Tyrod Taylor, Baker Mayfield and Drew Stanton, this is the best quarterback room the Browns have had in a long, long time. It is, in fact, the best it’s been in the expansion era. And if you’re going to be strong and deep at one position on the field, you want it to be at quarterback. That’s why I think the Browns will be much improved this season. Last year’s QB room was a mess.

*I have to admit that I was not impressed – at all – when the Browns traded with the Buffalo Bills to get Taylor in the offseason. And as such, I have to admit now that I was wrong as wrong can be. He has done everything the Browns have asked of him – everything that he needs to do – and more. His presence has been a real lift to this franchise. Why everybody wants to bench him before he ever takes a snap in a regular-season game, in favor of Baker Mayfield, is beyond me. I understand the desire to want to see Mayfield play – he was, after all, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft – but the primary objective is to win games, especially for a team that didn’t win any last season and but one the year before that. It is not to play high draft picks. To be sure, the two – wanting to win and playing high draft choices – are usually joined at the hip. But not this time at quarterback, because Taylor clearly gives the Browns the best chance to win at this time. Let’s give him an opportunity to show what he can do.
