I am appalled at the actions of some Northeast Ohio media members’ treatment of the Browns’ trade for embattled quarterback Deshaun Watson.
One reporter, who shall remain nameless, wrote that he had already written twice about the variety of reasons he opposes the trade, and “I’m not rehashing that old stew.”
And with that, off we go to look at Watson, the player. Yup, we’re movin’ on. Any more question?
Yes, I have one.
Really?
Really?!
Really?!!
Are you kidding me?
The guy is facing the possibility of being hit with 22 civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault, and it’s rehashing old stew?!
Let’s be very clear here — yet again — about the whole Watson thing.
He’s not being accused of stealing a candy bar at Circle K.
He’s not being accused of parking in a handicapped spot at Giant Eagle.
He’s not being accused of passing a bad check at Ace Hardware.
Hardly.
He’s being accused of sexual assault — 22 times over.
Yeah, in terms of severity, it beats out jaywalking — but just barely.
The Browns’ new face of the franchise is, in the court of public opinion, not a great guy.
Still think we’re making too much of all this?
OK, then, let’s say you’re a parent of a 20-something daughter and she brings home a guy for you to meet and introduces him this way: “Hi. I’d like you to meet my friend, Deshaun. There’s a chance he might be facing 22 civil lawsuits for sexual assault.”
Would your response be, “Oh, sweetheart, I’m so happy for you. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Deshaun. Why don’t the both of you come in and sit down?”. or, “Arrgggghhh! I think I’m going to faint,”?
This is all about football in one regard, obviously, but in another fegard, it has nothing at all to do with football.
It’s about a guy who could be — could be! — in some very serious trouble.
That some people — people who should know better — think it’s old news is incredible.
To be honest, I’m stewed about it.
