Ravens Rout Confirms Browns Are in Full Rebuild Mode

A rebuild is officially here.

OK, so, this, then, is going to be a fixer-upper kind of season for the Browns.

Big shock, huh?

Though we knew it all along because that’s the way it has always appeared since almost dating back to the end of last season, and then even moreso coming out of free agency and the NFL Draft, we now have it cast in concrete following Sunday’s 41-17 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

It’s no sin to lose to the Ravens in Baltimore, because they are a very good team that plays well at home. But to lose by three touchdowns and a field goal, and to do so because your offense was totally inept and may well be the worst in the NFL, puts the performance into rare air.

This means that the next 16 weeks — 15 games and a bye — are going to be a rough ride. Just like Browns iconic radio play-by-play announcer Gib Shanley used to say to his color analyst in the latter stages of games in that Kardiac Kids season of 1980 when it became obvious that another down-to-the-wire thriller was in store, “Put your seatbelt on, Jim Mueller. Here we go again,” we are going to need to hold on tightly. Only this journey, unlike that one, isn’t going to be any fun at all.

And speaking of having no fun, there are some questions that won’t please Browns officials. We’ll detail them next time.
