Rascally Big Mike Tomlin

OH, THAT RASCALLY BIG MIKE TOMLIN IS AT IT AGAIN

By STEVE KING

I would expect nothing less – a whole lot less – from Mike Tomlin.

The Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, doing his best Mike Tomlin, said the other day that his team did nothing to help start the mini-brawl at the end of the Browns’ 21-7 victory last Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

“I don’t know that we did anything to make it happen,” Big Mike is quoted as saying.

You know, when you don’t know what you don’t know, you really don’t know.

Look, Tomlin is a good head coach. I’ve said that in this space any number of times.

But he has always had a hard time – and still has a hard time – telling the truth. As he sees it, the truth is not really the actual truth, but rather the truth as he sees it.

And he has continually been totally fine with that.

Call it, “The Truth According to Mike Tomlin,” but you can’t call it the truth.

After a loss, or when something else bad happens to his team, Big Mike likes to say, “We own that.” But he’s not saying that this time, even though it’s painfully obvious that the Steelers do indeed “own” their part of what happened.

Big Mike can’t do that, for it will take away a weapon of his when the two teams meet again in Pittsburgh in a week and a half. He will tell the truth – er, I mean his version of it – and whip his guys into a lather in the days leading up to the rematch.

What a great motivational tool. It’s the same one he was trying to use when he used a slew of profanity to describe New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick before a game between those two clubs. One of his players was taping the speech – unknowingly so – and it got out.

Big Mike never really apologized for that, either, but Little Bill made him pay dearly for it as the Patriots laid a whuppin’ on the Steelers.

You see, Big Mike never really apologizes, or says he’s sorry, for anything. It’s called pride — too much of it.

I don’t want to hurt Big Mike’s pride, but he’s wrong – again.

Just watch the tape.
