QUIT TALKING, JIMMY, AND START DOING

By STEVE KING

Talk, talk, talk.

That’s all the Browns seem to do anymore in the offseason. And that’s all they did Thursday as owner Jimmy Haslam met with the media and discussed this year’s annual end-of-the-season purging, why it was done and how they plan to use it to become better.

Ugh.

Just once in the offseason, I wish the discussion could be – would be – how they plan to build on what they had done in the previous season. But there is never any building, only tearing down and rebuilding.

We’re supposed to listen, nod our heads affirmatively and believe. So, every offseason we do just that, yet it never, ever gets any better.

Indeed, the only things at which those in Browns management seem to excel are blowing up, starting from scratch and trying again.

I don’t really care what their plan is. I really, truly don’t.

Why? Because it doesn’t matter what I think. Because they don’t care what I think. The Browns are going to do what they always do regardless.

OK, understating that, then – understanding that the Browns understand that we’re all getting tired of the purging and the talk and just want to see some action, some positive results, and understanding that Haslam and his top people are determined to get it right but understand that there’s no guarantee that they will be successful – I want them to understand something in return.

That is, I don’t care what they do, really, but I – and we – are determined to hold the feet of the Browns top people to the fire until they get it right, until they fix it not just for the here and now, but for the long haul.

Just fix it and win.

That’s all.

Quit talking and start doing – the right things, that is – until it translates into success on the field, for that is all that matters.
