Quarterback Questions Take Center Stage as Browns’ Season Winds Down

It’s all about the quarterbacks at this point, not wins

Three thoughts on three Browns-related topics:

1) I heard some out-of-town analyst say that head coach Kevin Stefanski can’t worry about trying to see if Shedeur Sanders has a chance to be a candidate to be the Browns’ quarterback heading into next season. Rather, he has to worry about winning games. That’s crazy! This season was lost long ago. What difference does it make if the Browns win four, five or games? The much bigger issue is Sanders. Nothing happens with this rebuild until you identify the quarterback. That is not hard to figure out at all.

2) And along those same lines, how much does it mean for Sanders in the Browns’ eyes if he outplays quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in last spring’s NFL Draft, when the Tennessee Titans visit Huntington Bank Field? I think we’re going to find out.

3) Finally, let’s see if the Browns special teams play any better on Sunday than they did against the San Francisco 49ers. They can’t much worse, right? That’s inexcusable. I would love to have heard what Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, whose guys were playing lights out yet again, was muttering to himself when he was watching those special teams screw-ups.

With Week 14 on deck, the Browns’ focus has shifted from playoff hopes to the 2026 draft order and evaluating young talent—most notably QB Shedeur Sanders, who continues to flash ability but still has one key flaw holding him back.

Injuries are shaping the final stretch as well. DT Maliek Collins is done for the year, and OL Wyatt Teller is out for at least this week. After Monday’s report of help on the way, Cleveland officially signed OL Jack Conley and moved Collins to injured reserve. The team also made a flurry of roster adjustments: signing DT Sam Kamara to the 53-man roster, adding DT Simeon Barrow Jr., RB Ahmani Marshall, and LB Mark Robinson to the practice squad, placing DE Julian Okwara on the PS injured list, and releasing LB Eugene Asante.

Of the newcomers, Robinson brings the most experience—46 NFL games across stops with the Patriots, Jets, and Steelers.
