PASSING ON THE QUARTERBACKS — HAPPILY SO

By STEVE KING
I know I’ve mentioned this before, but it bears repeating,
That is: Aren’t you glad the Browns are not among the teams looking for a quarterback now? Aren’t you glad they are not jockeying for position at the top of the NFL Draft in a little over two weeks, trying to get themselves a shot at grabbing one of the best prospects? Aren’t you glad that subject is not numbing your ears every day on the local sports talk radio shows?
The Browns, of course, already have their man in Baker Mayfield, courtesy of former General Manager John Dorsey, and as such are exempt from that circus. And it is a circus. It is a bad look — a really, really bad look. It’s like gawking at an auto accident scene as you drive by it. It’s not something you want to see. Keep your eyes on the road and keep moving,
People in Cleveland should know that — and do know that because they’re smart and know their football — after spending nearly all of the first two decades of the expansion era looking — unsuccessfully — for Mr. Right.

With that having been said, then, what are you looking at instead in the draft from a Browns perspective?
Is it the edge rushers?
Is it the linebackers?
Is it the cornerbacks?
Is it the safeties?
Is it the wide receivers?
Or is it all of the above?
The players at those positions obviously don’t have the glitz and glamour focused upon them, as do the quarterbacks, but it is still a fascinating lot. Their levels of speed, strength and athleticism are so much greater than it was as recently as only 10 years ago. It’s freakish.
And it’s refreshing. We all got so sick and tired of dissecting quarterbacks every year. Let those other teams stay mired in it. They deserve the laughter of Browns fans because those were the teams — and their fan bases — that used to be laughing at the Browns at this time of year, every year, for such a long time.
