Another day, another potshot aimed at the Browns.
This one was hurled by Michael Wilbon on Monday night’s episode of “Pardon the Interruption,” the ESPN TV show he hosts late each weekday afternoon with Tony Kornheiser.
They were talking about the Browns and what they should do with their No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft in nine days now that they’ve signed free-agent quarterback Robert Griffin III.
The guys agreed that they should move forward with RG3 as the starter so, instead of drafting at quarterback at No. 2, they can devote that pick to addressing one of their many other needs.
“Come on, you’re the Browns,” Wilbon, who is not usually given to such, said in a tremendously condescending tone that was steeped in sarcasm and disrespect. “Of the 21 other positions on the field (other than quarterback), they need upgrades at probably 18 of them.”
This is what happens when you lose as much as the Browns have lost in this expansion era.
This is what happens when you go through head coaches, general managers, quarterbacks and regimes like water.
It doesn’t sound good at all. It sounds terrible. It’s embarrassing, disappointing, disheartening and disgusting.
But there’s none of it than can be debated. Unfortunately, it’s the cold, hard truth.
The Browns need to change that truth. Then – and only them – will stuff like this stop.
Look at it this way, head coach Hue Jackson, his assistants and their players will certainly not lack for motivation this season.
