THE OSWEILER TRADE TOLD US MUCH

If you think you know – or some of these so-called experts think they know — what the Browns are going to do in the 2017 NFL Draft next week, all of you might want to think again.

In the end, no one outside of Browns Headquarters may know what’s going on until it actually happens.

Remember the Browns’ trade to land Brock Osweiler? Did anyone see that coming? No, no one did. It flew in from left field. It was so surprising – so unexpected – that it almost seemed like a joke, some kind of ruse, or fake news.

In fact, in many ways, it still seems hard to fathom all this time later.

Did it really happen?

Yes, it did. At least I think it did.

So with that having been said, then, consider that the people who offered no hint of what they were planning to do in acquiring Osweiler, are the same ones who are plotting the Browns’ strategy for the draft.

Only this time, the stakes are much higher, the scope much bigger and more far-reaching.

For this is, after all, the draft, the lifeblood of every team. And this draft is especially that for the Browns in that they have so many high picks – Nos. 1, 12 and 33, and five of the of top 65 overall. This draft is incredibly important for the team, and for the professional well-being of the men making hose picks.

A make-or-break event for the Browns, and also for everybody involved?

You bet. Of course, it is.

With so much on the line, do you think – do you really think – that the Browns are going to show their hand? Do you think they are going to do anything – anything! – other than play it close to the vest?

The Brock Osweiler trade lets us – all of us – know the answer to those questions.

It’s not rocket science. We’re not splitting the atom here.

And, as they have said since World War II – and appropriately so – loose lips really do sink ships, then and now.

The Browns’ ship has been sunk for quite a while, and the men making those draft picks must get it back up to the surface.

Or else.

We all know what “or else” means.

It’s not good – for anybody, those men or the fans who have been waiting so long.
