On Three Quarterbacks and Schwartz

After having a little time to chew on another loss, this time by 23-16 to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at Huntington Bank Field after the Browns blew a 13-3 lead, here are three thoughts:

For those watching at the rest of the season at home, now’s a good time to set up your space for the season. A Browns fleece throw blanket makes those couch sessions better, and a team-logo pint glass set adds some game-day spirit.

1) This is the perfect time to give Shedeur Sanders (Jersey on Amazon) an extended chance to start at quarterback, giving him a week to get ready and get comfortable with the game plan. That’s even if Dillon Gabriel is healthy. We’ve seen more than enough of Gabriel, at least for the time being. It would give fans a reason — on offense — to watch.

2) If the Browns fire head coach Kevin Stefanski — and let’s hope they do — then here’s a vote, again, for defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to get strong consideration for the job. Despite all the dysfunction swirling around this team, he has kept his guys focused and playing at an extremely high level, especially all-world end Myles Garrett, whom he has turned loose, allowing him to showcase his immense skills. If Schwartz can excel in this environment, then he should be given the chance to develop that culture throughout the whole team.

3) And finally, let’s continue to keep Bernie Kosar in our prayers. Just as he was as a player, this ever-positive, and ever-honest and ever-grateful, man is as tough as nails.
